The city originally called Floranada, was initially intended to become an exclusive resort expected to exceed that of its northern neighbors in Palm Beach. However, a hurricane and financial hardship squashed those plans and despite attempts of it’s surrounding neighbors to be absorbed into other cities, Oakland Park formed and was incorporated in 1929. There were several additions to the city over the years growing its size, but remains a very diverse place filled with condo and apartment developments, single family homes, commercial, industrial and several retail business districts. The city of Oakland Park continues to re-invest in itself which is evident especially in the incredible improvements you see today along the Prospect and Dixie highway corridors. These districts are beautiful, functional and business as well as new patrons are flocking to these areas.
SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS – Check out Funky Buddha Brewery for a unique brew, they have a great vibe and make sure you’re up for a game of corn hole or giant Jenga! Join in the festivities for the Annual Octoberfest held at Jaco Pastorius Park. Stroll through Easterlin Park (even hook up an RV) or head across the street to Bark Park with your four-legged friend!
